REFERENCE: THE SUDDEN DEATH OF DR. MARCEL EBUA LIHAU
OBJECT: INFORMATION AND REQUEST FOR FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTION.
DEAR FRIENDS,
As some of you have already heard, it is very sad, indeed, to inform you that The Late Harvard Professor MARCEL EBUA LIHAU, Former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (then Zaire) has suddenly died at the Beth Israel Hospital in the City of Boston, Massachusetts, USA, on Friday April 9, at 09:45 PM. It was on that same day that his wife, The Honorable Sophie Kanza Lihau, was in the town on Lozi, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

PLEASE NOTE THIS: SOME MEMBERS OF THE LIHAU FAMILY ARE STRANDED IN THE LISALA AREA, NOW UNDER CIVIL WARS, WHILE THE OTHERS ARE TRAPPED IN THE LOZI AREA OF BAS-CONGO PROVINCE WHERE THEY HAVE PARTICIPATED TO THE BURIAL OF DR. SOPHIE KANZA LIHAU (SOME HAVING PROBLEMS TO LEAVE THE COUNTRY). ALTHOUGH
THEY HAVE THE MEANS AND ARE CAPABLE OF TAKING CARE OF THIS MATTER BY THEMSELVES, THE ABOVE- MENTIONED CIRCUMSTANCES MAKE IT VERY DIFFICULT FOR THEM TO DO ANYTHING, FOR NOW, FOR THEIR BELOVED FATHER AND BROTHER. IT IS, THEREFORE, INCUMBENT UPON US, MEMBERS OF LIHAU'S POLITICAL, SCIENTIFIC AND CONGOLESE FAMILIES, TO TIGHTEN OUR BELTS IN ORDER TO REPATRIATE IMMEDIATELY HIS BODY TO KINSHASA. THIS IS OUR CHALLENGE NOW! LET US PROVE TO THE WORLD AND TO THE CONGO THAT, YES, WE CARE OF OUR OWN.

1. On financial contributions
Please use the above instructions for your money deposit transfers or send your donation in money order directly to us or through your organizational representative who, in his turn, will forward it to us. Note that there is transparency here and that all the details about expenses will be made available to all the donors.

2. On Sympathy statements
We appreciate statements of sympathy made by personalities and/or Please, if possible, make them in French, five pages minimum because they will be bound in a form of book and presented to the family later on. Their authors who will be present at Funeral Services and wish to read them, should let us know ahead of time. By the same token, those who wish to read a poem, sing a song, or any other sympathetic theatric scenes, please let us know so that we can insert these in the program.

3. Funeral Services Schedule
Once all logistical details are taken care of, then you will be properly informed, ahead of time, as to when official Farewell Funeral Services will be held at one of Harvard University chapels or a church facility in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

4. Financial Contributions
The critical problem we have to deal with right now is to collect over $ 7,000.00 in order to take care of the funeral operations and the cost of the air transportation of the body back to Kinshasa. We therefore extend an appeal to you, you know better all that Dr. Lihau has gone through as a political refugee in this country. Please contact your acquaintances and
organizations to help us raise these funds so that this Great Man may be able to make his final rest among his family and among thousands of Congolese for whom he has worked and with whom he has struggled for the restoration of democracy in the Congo. Please note that we have only 7 days left to bring the money up front. Yes, we can do it. Let us, as previously stated, prove to the world that we do indeed recognize and appreciate what Lihau has done for and with us, in contributing financially to this great cause.

Available members of the Lihau family express their sincere gratitude to you all for what you are doing in the remembrance of their late father and brother.

For more information, please feel free to contact The Lihau Funeral Fund Committee.
Gratefully yours,
Professor Dibinga wa Said, Th.D. (Harvard), Ph.D. (Sorbonne),
Lihau Family Truste
