The Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) has in recent weeks been approached by some representatives of oppositions parties from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).They briefed the PAC about the situation in their country.

Among other things they complained that they are being ignored and their political role relegated to insignificance. They allege that the South African Government seems to be siding with the Government of President Laurent Kabila instead of mediating impartiality in their country. This may be correct, but it is a perception which the South African government must correct. This must apply not with regard to the Democratic Republic of congo, but also to Angola and Lesotho.

After listening carefully to some representatives of opposition parties from the DRC, the PAC has come to the conclusion that maximum impartiality must be observed in President Kabila's Congo if peace should return to that African country soon.

Some of the political parties in the DRC besides President Kabila's AFDL(Alliance for Democratic Forces of Liberation), which include those now rebelling against his Government are:UDPS(Union for Democracy and Social Progress) led by Dr. Etienne Tshisekedi, PALU(Patrice Lumumba Unified Party), FONUS(New Forces For Socialist Unity) and PDC(Christian Democratic Party).

Spokespersons for these parties say they recognise that President Kabila is head of the government of DRC, but they believe he must start a dialogue with them since he cannot alone resolve the problems of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The PAC is calling, especially upon the South African government to see to it that all the political parties in the DRC are involved of the late President Mobutu non-violenty.This measure must be taken in order to stop the escalation of war in the DRC wich is causing enormous loss of human life.

The PAC like all other Pan Africanists and Democratic Forces throughout the world want political stability and economic prosperity in the DRC as in the rest of Africa. The PAC believes that where mediation become necessary for South Africa in the internal affairs of other countries, strict impartiality muts be observed. The objective mut be to bring about peace, reconciliation, unity and achieve stability in Africa.
